It is very easy to plan a fitness program but not quite so easy to see it through. Managing workout routines through fitness training program is a slow and steady process that takes time and commitment. Be sensible about what you can achieve and it will motivate you.
- Understand that a fitness program doesn't have to be aerobics or weight training. If you make a point of living actively every day, you can create your own fitness program.
- Choose a fitness program that you are interested in. If you think that it would be cool to learn rock climbing, check it out. If you are uncomfortable outdoors, see what is happening at your local recreation center.
- Make a time slot. Look at your schedule and decide where your fitness program will fit best. Try to find at least 4 half-hour slots a week that take place on a regular basis, even if they aren't at the same time every day. Look at the months ahead and see how this time fits with changes that might be coming up in your life.
- Make it a habit. A habit needs to be repeated more than twenty times for most of us before we feel compelled to do it. That could be 6 or 8 weeks of sticking to a fitness program. Use this information when you start to argue with yourself about going to your next workout.
- Give yourself variety. You don't have to do the same workout day in, day out. Maybe Friday should be swimming day or Sunday the day to go for a hike. Even the most serious of athletes maintain variety in their training program.
- Jump back on the horse. If you miss a workout or fall off on your fitness program, that doesn't mean it is over. Forgive yourself and start again.
- Reassess. If you do find you hate your fitness program or have a very hard time sticking to it, you need to reassess what you have taken on. If four workouts a week are too much, make it three. If it is too hard physically for you, start at a slower pace or change your choice of activity.
